Sirohi was started in November 2019 as a brand under the Skilled Samaritan Foundation by Gauri Malik, an investment banker turned social entrepreneur. The Skilled Samaritan Foundation started its work in Sirohi, a small village situated in Haryana in 2012 for a solar lighting project for Sun Oven. Here, Gauri had the inspiration for a new venture to support artisans in rural communities. She realized the opportunity gap in rural communities where people have immense talent, but lack the chance and skill to showcase it. Since then, Sirohi’s focus has been on creating a range of home decor and furniture products that will be functional and sustainable.
Sirohi works with artisan clusters in Muzaffarnagar UP to make home decor products such as furniture, storage boxes and trays, handmade bags, and other home decor products. The products are made by converting industrial plastic waste such as MLP plastic wrappers and textile waste into ropes and dyeing them in various colors to make handcrafted products.
Upaya announced an investment in Sirohi, a home decor brand that creates sustainable jobs for artisans in rural Indian communities by manufacturing and marketing handmade furniture, boxes and bags.
