A New Chapter at Upaya

After 10 soul-fulfilling years, I have decided to transition out of a full-time role at Upaya. My decision is a moment of triumph — the organization we started a decade ago is in a phenomenal position: a strong team, strong leadership, strong systems, and poised for further scale.

Every founder dreams of the day when her venture is no longer dependent on her, and I’m thrilled we are here! I’ve always wanted this for Upaya, and am celebrating this moment.

My time as a day-to-day staff member will come to an end this month, but I am staying closely involved with the organization. I will continue serving as a Board member, and will always support the team and our entrepreneurs in an advisory capacity.

As I peer into the future, I feel incredibly lucky. Not many people have the opportunity to build and work their dream job for a decade. Not many work within a culture of transparency … the work we do is difficult, and sometimes we’ve had to iterate to get the impact right. I’m proud of the high impact standards we have set and will uphold for years to come.

Most importantly, not many organizations have the faith and commitment of hundreds of passionate supporters and partner organizations around the world. Upaya is the sum total of your dedicated voices, who believe there is an end to poverty in this lifetime and believe in the dignity of the human spirit.

When Sriram, Steve, and I ventured forward to start Upaya, we were staring at a blank page. The sheer emptiness of that page was equally thrilling and terrifying. I smile now, knowing we’ve reached the end of a chapter. We’ll turn the page and yes, what comes next is unwritten, but it will only build up from the beautiful story we — our team, our entrepreneurs, our supporters — have already written together.

I couldn’t be more proud, or grateful, and can’t wait to see where we go next.
